What is Netherword?
A word game for iPhone. You swipe across touching letters to spell words while a clock drains, and long words buy time back. Every ten words the board sinks through a gate and the clock runs faster. There is a daily challenge that is the same for everyone, and free play at three board sizes.
Is Netherword free?
It is free to download, and the daily challenge is free every day, on two of the twenty boards. You also get one game of free play to try it. A single in-app purchase unlocks the rest: unlimited free play at all three sizes, the other eighteen boards, the archive of past days, and stats, leaderboards and achievements. There are no ads and no subscription.
How does the daily challenge work?
Each day has one 6×6 board, the same for every player, and you get one attempt. A new board starts at midnight, your local time. Past days wait in the archive, which comes with the unlock, and each can be played once.
How is a word scored?
By its letter values times its length. Each tile shows its value; in English, GLOVE is 2 + 1 + 1 + 4 + 1 = 9, times 5 letters, for 45 points. Words of four letters or more also add time to the clock.
What is the shortest word allowed?
Three letters on the daily and on the small and medium boards. Four letters on the large board.
Which languages can I play in?
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. Each language has its own dictionary, its own letters and its own special days. Change it in Settings, under Language.
Does Netherword work offline?
Yes. Boards are made and words are checked on your iPhone, so you can play without a connection. Game Center scores and iCloud sync need one.
What are the twenty boards?
Tile styles you choose on the menu: dark glass, bone, ebony, sea glass, felt, ruby, jade, sapphire, diamond, rose quartz, smoked glass, walnut, linen, citrine, gold, silver, copper, bronze, gunmetal and titanium. Dark glass and bone are free; the rest come with the unlock.
Are there leaderboards?
Yes, in Game Center: one for the daily and one for each board size, plus achievements.
Can I play against a friend?
Share your daily result from the end screen. On an iPhone the link opens that day's board in a free App Clip, with nothing to install and no account, so your friend plays the identical board and you can compare scores.
Does Netherword show ads or collect my data?
No. There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no account. Your progress stays on your device and in your own iCloud.
Is there an Android or iPad version?
No. Netherword is made for iPhone and needs iOS 16 or later.
Can it remind me to play?
Yes. Turn on the daily reminder in Settings.
